Have You Ever Woke Up in the Morning and Hated Yourself?

I overheard someone in a hotel lobby one morning make this statement recently after a long night out!  I don’t know the facts and circumstances of what caused this person to make that statement, but I can only imagine. I wonder how many times we do things without really thinking through the consequences and then regret, after-the-fact, our past actions.

The Apostle Paul said, in Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Offering our bodies, our walk of life, our thoughts, and our actions as if we are living a sacrificed life for our God because of what he did for us, is what God asks us to do.

Paul also said in Philippians 2:1-5, “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”

This charge given by Paul to not live a life thinking only of ourselves but rather having that mindset similar to Jesus caring and sharing with others, not self-centered but building relationships that encourages each other as we look forward to Jesus coming again and taking us to that eternal place he has prepared for us.
